About Cheryl Dickson Neal

Original, inspirational, soul-touching stories of life told through music.

Canadian Gospel Music Award Nominee, Cheryl Dickson Neal is a Hamilton, Ontario based singer/songwriter, recording artist, pianist and music instructor. Cheryl has dedicated her life to perfecting her craft and touching the lives of many through her music.

2015 marks the launch of two new releases for this recording artist. Cheryl’s brand new single entitled Never the Same is an inspiring song of hope dedicated to all Breast Cancer Survivors. Cheryl is excited to be using Never the Same as a “Song of Hope for a Cure” to help raise funds for Breast Cancer research at the Hamilton Jurivinski Cancer Centre and their Breast Cancer Foundation, BRIGHT RUN. Her latest album Precious Peace is already receiving rave reviews from listeners even before it’s official launch tour. This album is an instrumental oasis of relaxing solo piano. Cheryl’s debut album My Prayer received a Covenant Award Nomination from the Gospel Music Association of Canada for Best Gospel Song of the Year in 2011 and has received airplay on local Christian Radio.

Since the release of My Prayer in 2010, Cheryl has been ministering at in-home concerts, large corporate gatherings and in churches across Canada as an Inspirational singer/songwriter. She shares her testimony of faith through her songs which are known for their raw, emotional lyrics overflowing with heartfelt honesty. Since almost every one of her songs has a relatable story behind it based on a life experience, her listeners are able to find their own personal connection to her lyrics.

Cheryl also has been performing as a pianist for weddings, corporate events and private parties in the greater Hamilton, Toronto and Niagara area for over 25 years. She is a music instructor at Mohawk College and successfully runs Dickson Music Studio in her home in Hamilton where she works as a music teacher giving piano, vocal and theory lessons.

Cheryl’s musical journey began at age 7 when she began learning the piano. At the age of 8, she wrote her first song and at age 14 won her first composition award at the A.C.E. International Student Convention. Cheryl has always had a natural ability to compose music and to play piano by ear from a very young age but wisely augmented this skill set with an impressive path of credentials. She is classically trained in piano through the Royal Conservatory of Music, holds an Honours Diploma in Music majoring in Jazz Piano Performance from Mohawk College and an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from McMaster University. Cheryl’s unique piano styling combines her classical and jazz training with current and retro pop influences for a style that is all her own. Cheryl has had extensive vocal training over the past 15 years. Her melodic voice is pure and strong with a distinctive tone, rich texture and an extensive range. She is currently learning to play the guitar to expand her musical horizons. This solid foundation combined with a natural talent, and creative expression gives you a superb sound and experience that you just can’t help but want to be a part of.

After 25 years of performing, teaching and composing music, Cheryl’s professionalism, musicality and charisma are consistently evident when you watch her perform, listen to her music and experience her mentorship. Her recordings are available for purchase and as you explore more of her music you may very well agree with the many listeners who have already experienced her God-given gift, that you’ll be left “wanting more”.
