November 2017 News

Since Hamilton is slowly becoming the City of Music and we try to present many different styles, at our Hamilton location on Saturday, November 11 we have our second country artist in nine years.  We are pleased to welcome Chelsea Crites to the stage.  This rising country sensation has been gracing stages all over the Niagara region and the Greater Hamilton Area. She knows not only how to sing but how to entertain. She blends R&B, Rock, Pop, and Country into her own sound. If you love artists such as Shania Twain and Faith Hill you’ll love Chelsea Crites. From a young age she took part in singing competitions and talent contests and was performing professionally at the age of thirteen.  Starting out in Port Colborne she has gone on to perform around  Canada and the U.S. taking residence in Nashville for a short period as a house singer at Tootsies.  Chelsea has been using her talents to help those in need by showcasing for the Autism Fundraiser, Cancer Awareness fundraiser, and Adults with Disabilities.  Don’t miss this rising country star!

On Saturday, November 18 we welcome “The Shots“, a new band to the Halton music scene. They are lively, upbeat and very tight, offering loved cover tunes and fresh originals designed to make you sit up and take notice. These young stars love engaging the audience and having a good time!
Lead singer Vanessa d’Souza and her brother, Ashley d’Souza on drums and keyboard, are the core and backbone of the group. Their enthusiasm is infectious and it radiates through the rest of the band. From an audience perspective, you can’t help but want to join in their fun. Their confidence and skill level are things rarely seen in young groups. Come out to see them and you can say “I saw them when they first started out”.

Music lessons are now underway in Milton at the Milton Tutoring Centre! Find out details by visiting our revamped website:http://acousticblendcafe.com/

Her latest album Precious Peace is already receiving rave reviews from listeners even before it’s official launch tour. This album is an instrumental oasis of relaxing solo piano. Cheryl’s debut album My Prayer received a Covenant Award Nomination from the Gospel Music Association of Canada for Best Gospel Song of the Year in 2011 and has received airplay on local Christian Radio.

Since the release of My Prayer in 2010, Cheryl has been ministering at in-home concerts, large corporate gatherings and in churches across Canada as an Inspirational singer/songwriter. She shares her testimony of faith through her songs which are known for their raw, emotional lyrics overflowing with heartfelt honesty. Since almost every one of her songs has a relatable story behind it based on a life experience, her listeners are able to find their own personal connection to her lyrics.

Cheryl also has been performing as a pianist for weddings, corporate events and private parties in the greater Hamilton, Toronto and Niagara area for over 25 years. She is a music instructor at Mohawk College and successfully runs Dickson Music Studio in her home in Hamilton where she works as a music teacher giving piano, vocal and theory lessons.

Cheryl’s musical journey began at age 7 when she began learning the piano. At the age of 8, she wrote her first song and at age 14 won her first composition award at the A.C.E. International Student Convention. Cheryl has always had a natural ability to compose music and to play piano by ear from a very young age but wisely augmented this skill set with an impressive path of credentials. She is classically trained in piano through the Royal Conservatory of Music, holds an Honours Diploma in Music majoring in Jazz Piano Performance from Mohawk College and an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from McMaster University. Cheryl’s unique piano styling combines her classical and jazz training with current and retro pop influences for a style that is all her own. Cheryl has had extensive vocal training over the past 15 years. Her melodic voice is pure and strong with a distinctive tone, rich texture and an extensive range. She is currently learning to play the guitar to expand her musical horizons. This solid foundation combined with a natural talent, and creative expression gives you a superb sound and experience that you just can’t help but want to be a part of.

After 25 years of performing, teaching and composing music, Cheryl’s professionalism, musicality and charisma are consistently evident when you watch her perform, listen to her music and experience her mentorship. Her recordings are available for purchase and as you explore more of her music you may very well agree with the many listeners who have already experienced her God-given gift, that you’ll be left “wanting more”.

About Sarah Smith

Sarah Smith is exactly where she needs to be.

As she shares her third full-length CD, 11, with the world, the London, Ontario pop/rock singer-songwriter is reflecting on lessons learned and dreaming of a bright future.

“This album sums up the last few years of my life,” Sarah says. “Searching for happiness, I came across misery. Wanting to succeed, I discovered how to fail. Trying to balance, I ended up falling. Looking for answers, I found them here all along. And, in all of this, I was able to continually grasp on to hope that life was putting me exactly where I needed to be.”

Produced by Juno-winning engineer Kevin Doyle, 11 is Sarah at her insightful and vulnerable best. The record features 17 new songs about love, life, and seeing the good in things – even the dark things.

“Life isn’t always easy,” she explains. “Sometimes there’s pain. Sometimes we make mistakes, but there are always things we can learn about ourselves and the world. It takes courage, but there are always reasons to have hope. Writing this record helped me get perspective, again, on how beautiful the world can be.”

11 follows Sarah’s previous full-length CDs, Stronger Now (2012) and The Journey (2014). Like her previous work, the CD weaves through a variety of styles, from rock (Changing My Mind, Runaway Stay) to pop (The Dark, Girl, Undertow) and country (Lay It On The Line, Sunrise). Also like her previous work, 11 features her honest lyrics, memorable hooks, and absolutely unmistakable voice. The album introduces some new sounds to her music as well, with different songs including horn arrangements, cello and steel drum.

A seasoned road warrior whose full-time touring schedule dates back to her days in Canadian rock band The Joys, Sarah continues to feel most at home on-stage. She plays nearly 300 shows per year, primarily in Canada, the United States, and Europe. Along the way, she has shared the stage with artists including Melissa Etheridge, Sass Jordan, Emm Gryner, Craig Cardiff, Joel Plaskett, David Wilcox, and many others. Whether it’s just her and her acoustic guitar or her full band, she is a mesmerizing performer. The 2015 DVD Sarah Smith: Plugged and Unplugged captures Sarah and her band in peak form, both live and in the studio.

Sarah has won and been nominated for many awards throughout her career. Her video for Into the Light, directed by Stacy Poulos and shot in California, won both a 2016 Telly Award and a 2016 Akademia Music Award for Best Video in the Pop Rock category. In 2015, she won the Toronto Independent Music Award Best Adult Contemporary honour, plus the Best Rock Artist at the London Music Awards, and Best Rock Artist at the Jack Richardson Music Awards. Music from The Journey has been featured on shows including CBC’s Cracked and the movie Anatomy of a Love Seen, directed by L.A-based director Marina Rice Bader.

While the accolades are appreciated, Sarah says for her it’s still all about the music.

“In the end, 11 is about blessings,” she says. “Sometimes you have to take a step back and appreciate the blessings in your life. Music is one of mine, and I’m excited to share these new songs with people all over the world!”
